Is it possible to create a link to a particular post within a thread?

Sure thing.

Point to the little page symbol at the top right of the post you want to reference:

and right click your mouse. Choose Copy Link Location or Copy Shortcut or whatever, depending on your browser. That will save the address of the post to your clipboard.

Now in the post you're constructing you can either just paste in the reference by holding down the Ctrl key then pressing V, like this:

or you can disguise it in the text, like this:

... as Machaira said in this post ...
